THE MUSIC

The defining feature of Siren Sisters’ repertoire is a breath-taking diversity which set them apart from most other groups.  Their sole criterion is that their music should give pleasure – for the group to sing and for the audience to hear. Their carefully-chosen arrangements of fine songs as well as pieces composed for upper voices make for a rich and enjoyable mix.

Their repertoire embraces many different genres, some examples being:

    • Pop: Skyfall, Dancing Queen, Hold On, Son of a Preacher Man, Let’s Get Loud
    • Rock: Bohemian Rhapsody, Viva la Vida
    • 60s & 70s: Big Yellow Taxi, Landslide, How Sweet It Is
    • R&B: Shop Around, Chain of Fools
    • Jazz: Take Five, Georgia on My Mind, I Got Rhythm
    • Tango: Libertango Tango to Evora
    • Gospel: Plenty Good Room, Sinner Man
    • Musicals & Film: Magic To Do, For Good, May It Be
    • 40s: Stuff Like That There, A Sunday Kind of Love
    • Manhattan Transfer: Operator, Boy from New York City, Choo Choo Ch’Boogie
    • Contemporary composers: The Seal Lullaby, Ubi Caritas
    • Classical: Ave Maria, Blagoslovi
    • Other Languages: Mas Que Nada, Dirait-On
    • Original a cappella compositions: Bumble Bee, Chili con Carne, VoiceDance, Warrior

While all shows include pieces the whole audience will know, it’s often the pieces that most of the audience didn’t previously know which are singled out by them afterwards as being particularly memorable.  Such pieces include Tundra by Norwegian-American composer Ola Gjeilo; Portum in Ultimo, beautiful polyphony from the 12th century; The Singer’s Childhood, a multi-layered folk piece sung in Estonian.

Whatever the programme, Siren sisters can promise a hugely enjoyable evening of varied music.
